The Reading Universe Taxonomy

Fundamentally, the Reading Universe (RU) Taxonomy is an interactive framework that guides teachers on how to effectively teach reading. Drawing from the design of the digital tool itself, we developed a style that uses a bright geometric approach to convey the optimistic and successful literacy resources that the RU Taxonomy provides. The art direction follows and builds upon the color palette for RU, and includes outline assets custom designed shapes. We use negative space, blocks of color, and clean vectorized imagery to help guide the viewer’s attention. When needed, on-screen text appears to reinforce the narration.

The imagery mimics the clean visual language of digital applications and provides a vivid, modern introduction to Reading Universe.

To gain the trust of educators and students everywhere, we employed the following elements to visually tell the story of the RU Taxonomy:

• We enhanced and anthropomorphized brand elements to break down the science behind how children learn to read.
• We leveraged photo of and video of teachers and students using the taxonomy in classrooms prove the effectiveness of this powerful resource.
• We spotlit the intuitive user interface to show just how easily teachers can navigate through the Taxonomy and fully harness its benefits.

The message is clear — this trusted guide is your key to all the teaching reading skills students need to master.
